That’s not too far off from my family, except it’s three Hondas. Two generations of Civics (sister has my old ‘09 Civic and I have a new ‘15 Civic Si) and a Crosstour. My father is the odd one out, since he drives an F-250. Heck, I think he’s the only one to have never owned a Honda.

Subaru needs to offer FWD cars that get better mpg

Sounds like my parents, they have a Honda Odyssey, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Accord (which replaced a Honda Civic) and my sister has an Accord too

Why would they remove the best feature about their cars? And anyway, we have two Subaru's that get much better MPG than they are rated, by as much as 20% in one case.

Why? Their whole deal is AWD cars. Why should they ignore their whole brand identity to offer something that doesn’t match the whole idea of what a Subaru is.

Had Honda made a real truck a couple years ago when my dad bought his F-250, he would probably be driving a Honda too. But he needed towing capacity, and he got it in spades to hear him tell it.

Same here. My Mom had a great rebound relationship with an ‘87 Accord after she got rid of her ‘84 Caravan. The Honda was amazing, and she’s still driving them to this day.
My sister does the same.
I talk Mrs McMike into Hondas, too.
When we’re all at the same place, it looks like a Honda club meeting.

Well it could be worse...

A John Deere of sorts, anyway. It’s built with a single stamping body plate, sheet metal rear axle box, plastic-tipped hood, etc etc. almost exactly the same as the MTD/Yard Man/Murray/whatever but slightly nicer. *slightly*. After all, it has better cup holder design (no, it really does, which means someone worked an extra half hour on the design, which is good). Not to say that a “real” Deere is The Only Mower For A Real Man, because if you upgrade to the slightly bigger MOWAR with a Kohler engine it will just develop insane electrical gremlins.

The Justy got pretty good mileage.

Then they would just be some cars. AWD. It’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

For better mpg and lower base price. Of course they can still offer the AWD. I’m not saying to eliminate it! And don’t forget the BRZ too :p

No they don’t. The market is clogged with same-y metooing wannabe copycats ripping off eachother. Let Subaru be Subaru. There’s room in the world for what they have to offer.

You even have a -1 Generation Crosstrek. Sweet

They used to do that. the MPG wasn’t amazingly better and the AWD outsold the FWD by a fair margin. So they stopped offering FWD and focused on AWD as what made their cars different and special. All offering FWD would do would be to dilute the brand and confuse the consumers in an attempt to gain sales of cheaper lower-option cars where there is less profit to be made.

Those trucks stacked would be almost as tall as that house!

What I read:
“Subaru needs to get rid of their winning formula and directly compete with Honda, Toyota, and Ford just like Mitsubishi. Because that was so successful.”
Subaru makes AWD boxer drivetrains. That's their niche. Their quirk.

Cool, The older Crosstrek is my brothers which my mom gave to him in order to get the 2015 Crosstrek. Then the Outback Sport is mine. My step-dad also wants to get a new Crosstrek when his company car (Ford Escape) lease is up. Making it 4 almost identical Subarus in our garage

The Crosstrek gets the about the same city and highways mpg as a FWD Mazda CX-5

It’s sorta like that at my house. Except there’s a Toyota, Subaru, and a Nissan. What ever happened to our all American driveway?

my family once owned three 2002-era green subaru outback legacy wagons.

My family’s driveway is similar, except Chrysler/Dodge. Mom’s 07 Caravan, my 13 Dart, and sister’s (formerly mine) 06 Stratus. Stepdad is the odd man out and has an 06(?) Suzuki Forenza wagon but that may change next year.

you’ll need a back up Subaru for the other 2.
